Skeleton Technologies Unveils Advanced BBU Solution for Data Centers with Acbel at OCP Global Summit 2025
Li-ion batteries, used in data centers for backup power, do not have enough power for modern AI data centers, and are prone to fires and thermal runaway, creating safety risks. To solve this, Skeleton is launching a Niobium-based Battery Backup Unit, GrapheneGPU BBU, at the Open Compute Global Summit in San Jose, California.
The collaboration takes advantage of Skeletons breakthrough Niobium SuperBattery technology, delivering a new class of BBU solutions for hyperscale and enterprise data centers. Skeleton, already supplying supercapacitor based solutions to hyperscalers, is also considering US expansion for its SuperBatteries.
• Enhanced safety: no thermal runaway risk and stable performance in extreme temperatures;
• GrapheneGPU BBU: twice as powerful as classical high power li-ion batteries;
• More sustainability: Niobium-bearing chemistry with recyclable materials and a lower CO₂ footprint compared to conventional batteries.
